Originally, How The Grinch Stole Christmas is a children story written and illustrated by Dr. Seuss. It was first published as a book in 1957 by the Random House Publishing. However, the book was criticized because it promotes commercialization of Christmas and mocks those who gain profit from exploiting the yuletide season. This novel contains different sorts of adaptations from the past up to the present.

The story was adapted by Chuck Jones as an animated special in 1966, and its animated movie usually appears in the American cable channels during the yuletide season. 1975, the story was narrated as an LP record by Zero Mostel. On the other hand, a musical stage version was introduced and produced by the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego around 1998. The most popular adaptation of this story is that it was adapted into a live-action film which was top billed by Jim Carrey in 2000.
